My level could potentially be used for several different scenarios or game generes. It is a wide open space with a set path for the player to go on but this one path could be used for an MMO, or an open world exploration and possibly a sandbox game. This blog post about the level is showing the full finished product without the steps of how i did it.

A Quick Overview of the map itself

The map is structured in such a way the player has no choice but to explore going along the road. There is nothing to stray off to the side and the story behind the level is the player could come upon a town or settlement at the end of the valley.

The different viewpoints help show the map off in different ways, The Start being shown as blocked off from behind forcing the player to go the opposite way down the canyon, where as the overhead view shows the map has a clear direction and encourages the player to go in said direction. The angled shot and middle show one of the landmarks of the map which is the main bridge the player will be encouraged to cross.

Player Experience of the map

In the player screenshots you can see a decline and clear progression in the level itself with various landmarks and points to help guide the player along.

When the player first spawns in they are surrounded by rocks and trees as you can see in the screenshot labled with “Start” this helps assist in a clear way to go from the start. The large mountain and clear road help pull the player along the map as they have such a large and clear view. As the player gets away from the spawn area a small flat bridge to help get across what would of been a river however i struggled getting water to work in the way i wanted for now.

Progressing further on around the edges are trees indicating you shouldnt be exploring that way backed with rocks to help give the presence of a boarder and aid in the direction of the map.

Once the player runs around the corner from the spawn there is a large canyon filled with rocks and boulders stopping the player wandering down getting stuck, instead is a larger bridge which is raised out the floor giving the feeling they should travel across it and explore further along pointing in the right direction.
